The digitally enabled library
I walked to the library.
Because I want to stop buying books on impulse.
I can borrow the books I want to read from the library.
Last night, I reserved one of the books on my local municipality's library app.
As soon as I made the reservation, I received an email saying that the reservation had been accepted.
The book is sent to my local library from another library, within the same municipality.
When the book was sent, it seemed to notify me again that the material was ready.
Today was a sunny day and I had time.
I had not yet been notified that the material was ready, but I walked to the library.
I walked while listening to Chopin played by Vladimir Ashkenazy and Vladimir Horowitz.
The library is on the upper floor of the building where the railway station is located.
It is a great convenience.
There are many restaurants and shops on the floors between the library and the railway station.
I was looking for a book by Ichiro Kishimi.
Kishimi is a philosopher who is familiar with Adlerian psychology.
The library has a computer terminal for searching.
I can find out what Ichiro Kishimi books are in the library I am in.
I thus chose three books.
To borrow a book, you can go to a staffed counter.
Alternatively, you can use an automatic book-lending machine.
I placed the books I wanted to borrow on the table of the automatic book-lending machine, stacked on top of each other.
I then displayed my barcode on the library app and scanned it on the automatic lending machine.
A notification appeared on the screen.
It said that the reserved book was ready.
A library staff member told me where I could pick up the reserved book.
I had to go to the reserved book collection area.
The pick-up area is equipped with a series of numbered shelves.
I asked the staff member there to tell me how to find my reserved book.
You have to scan your barcode into the barcode scanner in the receiving area.
It then outputs a piece of paper with a number on it showing where that book is located.
I took the paper and searched that shelf and found the book I had reserved.
Together with the three books I had just selected, I was able to operate the automatic lending machine to borrow the book.
After the operation, a paper with the title of the book I had borrowed and the due date was output.
A staff member was by my side and kindly explained everything to me.
I will write down the title of the book I borrowed today as a memorial.
Problems of Neurosis by Alfred Adler, translated by Sanae Hasegawa.
The Preparedness Not to Be Connected, by Ichiro Kishimi.
Life advice on a day when you want to cry, by Ichiro Kishimi.
Erich Fromm - Live freely without fear of loneliness - by Ichiro Kishimi
I had no idea that the nearby library was so convenient.
I walked home with light steps.
I can borrow today's four books until 8 December.
