Long nap
Although the weather was not very good, rain was not in the forecast.
Did the laundry and asked my husband to hang the washing outside.
Cooked vegetables to eat on weekday mornings while I chatted on Discord.
In the blink of an eye, it got to be midday.
After lunch, I somehow missed my futon and went straight to sleep.
I had an online English conversation lesson booked at 4pm, so I set my alarm.
I closed my eyes, then opened them and was surprised to find that it was already 3pm.
I wanted to sleep for another 30 minutes.
The next time I opened my eyes it was already 3:25pm.
The tutor asked me if there was anything else I liked to do in life besides music.
'That is reading,' I replied.
Before I became an internet user, I liked to read books.
The tutor taught me the expression avid reader.
It is questionable whether I was that much of a massive reader, but I was told that it is used to describe someone who reads a lot of books.
In the past, people who bought computers and used the internet were seen as a bit of a geek, or the public's view of the internet was not so good.
But now, with the proliferation of smartphones, people all over the place are hooked on content and communities via the internet.
People who use those services may not even be very aware that they are using the internet.
I think I had such a conversation with some old network friends the other day.
The other day, I heard about a wearable device called Orion, which was announced by Meta, and I was worried about whether I could use it because my eyesight is not so good.
It will probably be a while before Orion is normally available in Japan, but I was also worried about my eyesight when the Apple Vision Pro was launched.
But then I learnt about a technology called Blindsight, developed by Neuralink, which has been certified as a breakthrough device by the US FDA.
The technology allows people to see, and the visibility is about the same as an old Atari game, but it is still much better than not being able to see at all.
If my eyesight gets a bit worse, I won't be able to read books.
I've tried audiobooks, but I don't seem to be very good at understanding through my hearing.
If it's an interesting novel, I can listen to it more and more, but if it's a difficult story, my ears fall asleep.
So I should read books while I can.
So I wrote in my diary the day before yesterday that I was going to hold off on buying books, but I took that back and pre-ordered a book.
The book is called Programming: New Ways of Writing Programs, written by a Japanese author.
It will be released this coming Monday, 30 September.
I'm starting to learn Python now, but I'm stumbling at the introductory stage, like where do I type in to actually get it to work?
So I thought I needed a book.
Because if I had to search the web for everything I didn't know, I wouldn't have enough time to do it.
