The Bible and Shakespeare
In an online English conversation lesson today, the tutor told me what music he was listening to and what books he was reading these days.
I won't write about the music here, but the book was something out of Joyce's works.
The teacher said this was a very religious novel.
When I said that I would need to know the Bible, the tutor said that quotations from the Bible and Shakespeare usually appear in native speech and gave me a website with a list of idioms and phrases that are quoted from the Bible.
The teacher also said that there are nuances that are lost in translation.
But it would be hard to read Shakespeare in the original.
No, it would be impossible.
I'll take the opportunity to read the Japanese translation.
But would reading the Japanese translation be of any use when I actually use English?
No, it's not good that I don't even know the synopsis of the book in the first place.
I got up at the same time as on weekdays, did the laundry and cooked, and then went to a doctor's office.
I go there regularly to have blood and urine tests.
I would like to get a shingles vaccination, but am hesitant because the adverse reactions seem to be reasonably strong.
I went home and entered the test results into a spreadsheet.
After lunch I kept a household account while on voice chat.
Then I was too focused on the conversation and made a mistake with the household accounts.
