Toshigami-sama (year god)

For the reasons of work from home or so, my boss and I aren't going to meet each other in person in this year anymore.
And he gave me a polite greeting when I leave the office.
I soon regretted when I got on a train because I felt my greeting was too simple and might not be polite enough.
My current boss is the politest boss in my life.
He doesn't act bossy.

We often say, for the last time meeting in the year, 'Please welcome a good year' in Japanese.
However, actually, it doesn't mean only a year itself and also Toshigami-sama.

Toshigami is, literally, year god.
I'm not an expert of Japanese many gods.
In our folklore, there are many kinds of god.

Many buddhist like me go to Japanese god's shrine and pray to god in new year.
For example, we pray to god for passing the entrance examination.
Some of us hit a gong at a buddhist temple on new year's eve and after that they visit god's shrine and pray for domestic peace.

Writing English is difficult.
The fact frustrates me bit by bit.
Because I feel that I can never express my real feeling in English.
