Data that is not analysed

Data is meaningless if it is not analysed.
I have been recording my family finances in a household budget book for years, but it is not analysed.
So I keep dwelling on the fact that I didn't stick to the budget again, or that I wasted money.

Today, I happened to be looking at a Google Spreadsheet and saw a sample called Managing an Annual Budget.
I was curious, so I opened it up and wanted to try it out for a bit.
It seemed well done.

One option is to try to qualify as a financial planner myself.
There must be a trend in the increase or decrease in the amount of money.

Today, I was closing the household accounts for September.
When I finished the work, I asked my husband to look at it and when he didn't say anything, I held out an imaginary microphone to him and asked him to speak up and say a few words.
Neither my husband nor I said anything to each other because we were both guilty of failing to stick to the budget.
It is not very healthy, I feel, to treat ourselves to spending money.
But we make excuses to go on a spending spree, like buying a new smartphone because we worked hard this year.

The new year will arrive in less than three months.
In Japan, it is customary to celebrate the new year with a sumptuous meal, and special dishes and ingredients for the new year are usually sold at a high price.
I am beginning to think that I might just relax and eat the same food as usual in the new year, just to try it out.
Who exactly is benefiting from all the fuss about it being a new year?
Is it really beneficial for me?
Doesn't it just renew the calendar?
