Cloth to place washed dishes on
The dishes are washed by my husband and placed on a stylish, solid cloth until they are wiped dry.
The cloth is laid on the worktop next to the sink.
When we have finished wiping the dishes and the top of the cloth is empty, hang the cloth in the kitchen.
It will be dry by the time it is next used.
However, as it is a thick cotton cloth, at some point the Moraxella bacteria started to grow and the cloth began to give off an unpleasant odour when wet.
Even if you wash them with ordinary weak alkaline soap or detergent and dry them in the sun, this unpleasant odour cannot be removed.
I got fed up and bought some invert soap*.
When I was a child, if I had a stomach ache, my mother would prepare a solution of diluted invert soap in a washbowl and tell me to soak my hands in it.
* benzalkonium chloride
A cloth was soaked in a solution of 200 times diluted invert soap for 5 minutes after normal washing.
After soaking and rinsing, the cloth was hung out in the sun and has just dried.
If this procedure is repeated each time the cloth is washed, there will be no more unpleasant odour.
But the procedure seems a bit cumbersome.
I am not sure if I should abandon the thick cotton cloth and lay down a microfibre cloth.
Microfibre cloths dry quickly because they are synthetic fibres.
My husband uses them to wipe up the sink.
We buy more of those.

Today, I had to make phone calls and send emails in the morning.
I also did some laundry before the storm hit.
Yesterday, after a relaxing dip in a warm bath, my ill health improved a little.
